Norwegian Cruise Line’s next ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, goes on sale to the general public today for the first time.

Scheduled to debut in 2013, the 4,000-passenger vessel has been available for booking by members of Norwegian’s frequent passenger program, Latitudes, since Friday.

Fares for the ship’s inaugural, seven-day trans-Atlantic cruise from Southampton, England to New York, which kicks off on April 30, 2013, start at $749 per person, based on double occupancy. Fares for the ship’s first season of seven-day cruises to Bermuda (May 12 through Oct. 6, 2013) start at $1,199 per person, based on double occupancy.

Norwegian announced earlier this month that the Norwegian Breakaway will sail year-round out of New York after its debut in 2013, taking the place of the much smaller Norwegian Star. At 144,000 tons, the Norwegian Breakaway will be the largest cruise ship ever to home port in the city. Read more about Norwegian’s announcement.

Currently under construction at a shipyard in Germany, the Norwegian Breakaway is the first of a new class of vessel at the line.
