Rome’s new hotel tax upsets tourists, hoteliers…

Posted on 06 January 2011

Looking forward to seeing the Trevi Fountain or strolling along the Piazza de Spagna again? Or finally getting to see the incredible Colosseum and Pantheon?

If so, expect to pay a bit more for the experience.

Rome on Jan. 1 started levying a new room tax on hotel guests – and it’s causing an uproar among both hoteliers and tourists, the UK’s Guardian reports. The new tax – levied per person – ranges from about $1.50 a night to about $4.50 a night, depending on the type of lodging.
