Pull out the swimsuits and end summer with a splash at Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate near Disney World. If you’ve ever been to Orlando at the end of summer, you know why a hotel pool—no, a fabulous hotel pool—ranks high on the must-have list. This resort’s 15-acre pool area includes a lazy river, a 150-foot waterslide, a family pool, and a quiet adults-only pool. And the Weekend Splash Parties are legendary. Think poolside races, scavenger hunts, DJs spinning summer tunes, and “dive-in” movies. Not to worry: There’s plenty for moms and dads here, too. Golf the two Greg Norman-designed courses or slip into the spa. Want a date night? Book a table at one of five on-site restaurants while the kids play games at the nightly kids’ program.

This new experiential retreat and spa in the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve serves up huge helpings of authentic Austin-style adventure, culinary activities, culture, fitness, and wellness. You can zing over the preserve’s treetops on a dual zip-line. Watch the sun rise over Lake Travis from the saddle of a horse. Taste the nuances between barbecue sauces. Learn the Texas two-step. And strengthen your core with a mechanical bull-riding workout. Seriously. It’s the kind of activity lineup that makes you forget you were a compulsive email-checker before you checked in. Breakfast and activities are included in the $189 per night Sunrise package, a 50 percent savings on regular rates.

Camp Chief Ouray

Near Winter Park, Colo.

Fancy vacations are great and all, but sometimes it takes wilderness to truly unwind. All summer long this YMCA camp just outside Rocky Mountain National Park gives kids the time of their lives on 5,100 acres of mountains, streams, meadows, and trails. But on Labor Day weekend, families get a turn to sing silly songs in the dining hall and make s’mores around the campfire. Snow Mountain Ranch’s Camp Chief Ouray, a one-and-a-half-hour drive northwest of Denver, is Colorado’s longest-running summer camp. It’s an experience that goes beyond archery, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and game nights. This CCO staff knows how to have fun (occasionally in superhero garb) and change lives. Worth sacrificing running water and heat in your cabin for a few nights? Absolutely.

The deal: $160 per adult, $80 per child (5 to 12), under 5 free

The rooms: Rustic cabins with electricity only, or upgrade to room in lodge

Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa

Sausalito, Calif.

I’m a sucker for a summer festival. So when this Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa deal came up during the Sausalito Art Festival on Labor Day weekend, well, it had me at hello. If you’re an art fan, you’re likely already following the festival on Facebook (and scoring discounted tickets). If you’re not, this is the fest that could convert you. Yes, the Mediterranean-like backdrop is that stunning. On the other side of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito has huge charm factor. And the boutique Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa effortlessly delivers picturesque bay views from the hillside. Dig into the food scene while you’re here. The Simply Sausalito package includes gift certificates at two favorite local restaurants: CIBO ($30) and Sushi Ran ($100).

And here’s the grand finale for those of us who like to go out with a bang and a bash. On Sunday, a DJ cranks out the beach tunes during carnival games, hula hoop and limbo contests, and more games you can play with an umbrella drink in hand. That night, at the Taste of the Islands Buffet, you’ll feast on macadamia-crusted mahi mahi with vanilla Champagne sauce and sirloin with caramelized Bermuda onion. Then stake out your spot on the beach for fireworks at dusk. You won’t want to leave, and the resort isn’t making it any easier. Extend your stay and you get 50 percent off rack rates September 5 through 8.
