Mexico’s tourism market is trying to cope after two setbacks: the suspension on Saturday of all flights operated by Grupo Mexicana and the U.S. Department of State’s travel warning on Friday to citizens traveling to Mexico. States that should be avoided if possible are Michoacan, Tampaulipas, Sinaloa, Durango, Coahuila and parts of Chihuahua, according to the warning. The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City said visitors should defer unnecessary travel. The warning was spurred by a shooting in Monterrey in front of the American Foundation School on Aug. 20.
