United Airlines to ax Oakland service…

Posted on 24 March 2012

United Airlines will shut down its operation at Oakland International in June. The airline connects Oakland to its Denver hub, but those flights will operate for the last time June 3.

“We are no longer able to continue the service between Denver and Oakland after June 3,”  said United spokeswoman Mary Clark. “The financial performance of the flights has made the losses too great to allow us to maintain the service.”

She says United “will contact customers currently booked on our flights between Oakland and Denver and offer to either reaccommodate them on other flights or provide a refund.”

United will still maintain a large presence in the Bay Area. The airline operates one of its largest hubs at nearby San Francisco International and also flies out of San Jose.
