Southwest to bid for Frontier Airlines in bankruptcy court…

Posted on 31 July 2009

Southwest Airlines confirmed Thursday that the carrier is preparing a bid to acquire Denver-based Frontier Airlines, which will be sold at a bankruptcy court auction next month.  Southwest has submitted a nonbinding proposal to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The bid will be at least $113.6 million. Republic Airways last month proposed a deal to buy Frontier for about $109 million. If Southwest ends up acquiring Frontier, Southwest would get its first international service, as Frontier flies to five destinations in Mexico.
