In case you missed this news around the Thanksgiving holiday, Delta saysit’s the first U.S. airline to add baggage tracking to its app for smart phones and mobile devices.

Delta says its Delta mobile app now allows customers to track their checked luggage. The app currently is available for Android, Windows and and iPhone devices. Delta says it expects to have a BlackBerry version available in “early 2012.”

The mobile-device app comes after Delta launched online baggage tracking this past April. Delta also says it was the first U.S. airline to launch that capability.

“We heard such positive customer feedback that we decided to add this feature to our Fly Delta mobile apps as well,” Delta spokesman Paul Skrbec says in an e-mail to Today in the Sky.

“So how does it work?”

Delta posts just that question on its corporate blog, along with the answer:

Just enter the number on your bag tag receipt – or iPhone users can scan the barcode – and watch your bag’s journey from departure to arrival and all points in between. Plus you’ll even know which carousel they arrive on!
