Alaska Airlines is doubling its service from California’s Bay Area to Kauai and the Big Island with flights seven days a week.

The Seattle-based airline announced Tuesday it plans to begin daily, nonstop service from Oakland and San Jose, Calif. to Lihue and Kona.

The expanded service is to begin March 12, 2012 with introductory one-way fares of $179. Tickets must be purchased by Sept. 3 for travel from March 12 through June 9.

Alaska Airlines added Lihue service last year with three flights a week from San Jose and four flights a week from Oakland.

There are currently three flights a week between Kona and Oakland and four flights a week between Kona and San Jose.
