Travel Executives head to D.C. for Tourism summit…

Posted on 14 September 2009

Tourism executives have a date with their lawmakers this week, as they converge on Washington, D.C., for the Travel Leadership Summit.  The event, is sponsored by the U.S. Travel Association, which scored a victory last week when a key piece of legislation received approval from the Senate. The Travel Promotion Act, a longtime goal of the travel industry, would create a publicly subsidized advertising campaign aimed at drawing more overseas visitors to the United States.  The money would come from a $10 fee imposed on travelers entering the U.S. from countries where they do not have to obtain a visa, as well as industry contributions. Travel industry executives are expected to lobby lawmakers on the legislation this week. The bill still has to pass the House.
