Hawaii Rejects Legalized Gaming…

Posted on 25 March 2010

Sad news for Hawaii-bound gamers: The state has decided once again not to allow gambling in the islands.

Seventeen gambling-based initiatives were proposed this year, and one in particular that would reportedly have allowed for a casino, moved through the State Legislature farther than expected. However, public testimony on the various gambling measures was reportedly overwhelmingly negative. With the recent economic downturn, the Legislature seemed more willing this year than in the past to consider generating income through gaming. Opponents were concerned with damaging Hawaii’s appeal as a family destination, and with the negative effect casinos might have on the local population.
